[Micro Book Review] Just finished Seth Godin's (Buffalo native) 'This is Marketing' and here are some ideas/takeaways from the book...

One of the main premises of the book is this:

"People like us, do things like this."

Because...

"Because better is what our market is waiting for."

"Because it doesn't matter what people you're not seeking to serve think."

"Because dog food is for dog owners."

"...because every big decision is made based on our perceptions of status."

"...because it's the only audience that will give us a chance with our new thing."

"...because coffee is better together."

"...because we're professionals, and because we want to make change happen."

"Because they don't have the guts or the persistence to turn your strategy into their strategy."

"Because it furthers their goals, because it permits them to tell a story to themselves that they're proud of."

"Because telling someone else is what humans do."

I think the book is an important read for marketers and those interested in making change - change in their lives, in their work, in their field, in their community.

And it's easily digestible in just a few hours.

I highly recommend it as a book to buy, annotate, keep and review.
