An Absolute Rant On Email

An Absolute Rant On Email

Email has become a problem…

And I’m a contributor to this nonsense!

What I don’t understand is this:

We’ve evolved TV to where we don’t have to sift through a thousand channels or programs or commercials to find what we want.

We’ve done the same with music.

But in order to get to the one email that has worth in our inbox, we have to clutter our mind with these:

  • Unrequested Event Invites

  • The “did-you-get-my-email?” email

  • The ‘it’s-urgent-to-them-but-not-to-me” email

  • Check-ins

  • Micro-Updates that could be saved and given as one update

  • Webinar alerts

  • The “I’m-clearly-sitting-at-my-computer-doing-nothing-but-trying-to-prove-I’m-doing-something” email

  • News I don’t care about

  • Spam!

And that’s with a spam blocker turned on.

I’m guilty of sending most of these!

Now, clearly, there is a place for email.

But there are many of us reading this right now who are sitting in front of our inbox waiting for something to happen.

None of us are hanging out in front of our mailboxes at home, waiting for the mail to arrive (and thinking that’s a job).

None of us are KEEPING every piece of mail that arrives in our mailbox.

I wonder what would happen for all of us if we treated email the same way we do mail.
