The Real Magnet

“It’s clear the main reason Amazon wanted to be here was the availability of a skilled tech workforce..."

1,500 new Amazon tech employees will be moving into Manhattan soon.

And it didn't take any government subsidies to get them there.

While opponents of the original HQ2 deal signed to bring 25,000 Amazon tech workers to NYC will tell you "see, they're coming anyway," it's relevant to note the math:

1,500 is 6% of 25,000.

With that being said, the overall message is clear:

Tech Talent is the magnet that attracts companies. And NY has talent.

Plus Amazon isn't alone. Facebook is creating space for over 14,000 employees.

“It’s hard to predict future growth, but we believe New York is a vibrant market with a tremendous pool of talent,” said a Facebook spokesperson.

And now Google plans to add 7,000 employees in NYC over the next decade.

So, here are my 2 questions:

At what point do we in Buffalo make NYC a focused target of tech talent recruitment for our community?

And where does $56,596 in earnings get you $150,000 in income?

NerdWallet can answer the second question: https://lnkd.in/eVmr8E7

The first question requires us working together.
