You Are Now Free to Stream

Santa Golisano is coming to town with new internet, and the reason this announcement is so important has nothing to do with Netflix. Here's why new internet is huge for us...

Buffalo, on the whole, has some of the slowest internet speeds of any city in the country.

It's true, see here.

So when Tom Golisano (who, fun fact, I've done the egg toss with at the 2003 Buffalo Sabres Company Picnic) decides he's going to invest $100 million to bring Greenlight Networks to Buffalo, we celebrate such an incredible gift.

And here's why...

Yes, people are now going to be able to have options for service, which drives down price.

Yes, people are now going to be able to stream their "entertainment" in areas where they've historically had spotty (or no) service.

But now there are kids who are going to be able to stream videos that teach them how to do a thing - like code, or cook, or build something helpful.

Now there are businesses that will be able to do their work faster - helping them better compete in a global economy.

This is a huge step toward equality and access for our people, our local communities, and our city.

Let there be Greenlight!
