When Buffalo is in Forbes

M&T Bank and CIO Mike Wisler were featured in an important article in Forbes on Monday. And here are a few points on our tech community...

"...between 2005 and 2017, 90% of all U.S. high-tech job growth occurred in five metropolitan areas—Boston, San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego and Seattle."

But in 2020, you'll start to see this trend shift as other cities push hard to attract, retain, and foster more tech workers.

Also, high-tech job growth follows talent. And as costs continue to rise in these few tech hubs, companies will look to move jobs to other cities that can provide tech talent at a lower cost to the company.

That's why it's so important for Buffalo to develop a regional tech talent attraction, retention, and fostering program.

"Buffalo...certainly has advantages over tech mega hubs like Silicon Valley, from its close-knit community vibe to its relatively cheap real estate."

Because we have the bones to attract these high tech jobs if we can solve the talent piece.

"While M&T will compete with other local companies for this talent, Buffalo’s businesses will have to work closely together if they want the city to flourish as an emerging tech hub."

And this is the only thing holding us back.

Cheers to working together in 2020.
